Welcome back to True’s Blog Guide. The blogging guides are doing quite well and I feel like why not share the knowledge that I have of some aspects of blogging with the rest of you guys to optimize your blogging goals!
Today’s topic is about how you can manage to get yourself invited to fashion week. Some of you have been dreaming of attending a catwalk show during a fashion week however you don’t know how to get started. I feel like people are secretive when it comes to this topic but that shouldn’t be at all. I’m gonna share 3 tips with you that has helped me out a lot and has enabled me to attend some fashion shows during fashion week!
1. Send the right email to the right person (e-mail is magic)
If I say email is magic, I mean it hahah. Seriously guys, putting time into sending emails to the right people can do so much. Let me give you an example. If you go on to the website of London Fashion Week, you’ll see the schedule of the shows and the names of people who take of the brand’s PR and ticket requests. You’ll find the e-mail addresses next to their names as well. All you have to do is send them an email. Yes yes yes, it’s that simple. However don’t just send a random email. Who wants to read an impersonal email?! No one! You have to remember that those people (PR, brands etc.) get bombarded with tons of emails a day especially during fashion week with ticket requests. So in the email, do pitch yourself briefly. Tell them what your blog is about and why you are so interested in attending the fashion show of that particular brand. Write the email as if you’re telling a friend quickly about your blog and what you write about and why you really want to attend Brand X’s fashion show. Also, don’t make the mail too long though. Keep it brief, to the point and try to make it a bit personal.
2. Email PR agencies
PR agencies control and manage a lot of the shows of brands as well. So to be invited for shows, it
is also good to get yourself onto the press list of some PR agencies. You can find via Google. Browse through their ”client” section on their website and see if you really like the brands that they have in their portfolio. If you do like it, drop them an email and ask them if you can attend the shows of the brands or if you can be added onto their press list. I always prefer to send an email directly to someone instead of the info@…. email addresses. They are so impersonal, don’t you think?
3. Get your media kit ready!
So the previous steps are actually all about getting you emailing skills on fleek, yes I said it on fleek hahah. Besides that, it’s also important to get you mediakit ready as well. The people that you’re going to send the emails to want to know all the details about your blog and its growth. So that is when the media kit comes in and it shows a little bit that you are taking your blog to the next level. Having a media kit demonstrates that you see your blog as a business which is good if you want to work hand in hand with brands and PR agencies. Therefore, when you send the email off for ticket request do add your beautiful and creative media kit! Don’t worry too about your stats not being the same as Chiara Ferragni. You can attend fashion week even if you’re not an A-list blogger. Flaunt your skills and be proud of your blog achievement you’ve accomplished so far!
4. Apply for a PR internship
Another great way to get yourself into the fashion week madness is to apply for an internship. In London for example, a lot PR agencies seek for interns weeks before fashion week starts. Majority of the time it’s a short 2/3 weeks internship to help the agencies with all the fashion week duties. This might get you into the shows they organize. Not only can you get into the shows, this also adds an extra experience on the CV. Sounds perfect to me!
That’s it for today! I hope you found these 4 tips useful. Try it out and please come back and tell me if it worked! I would love to hear your stories! By the way, drop in the comment section below what kind of tutorials you would like to read next.
